Hello community!
I’m writing this on the heels of Kendrick’s Superbowl Halftime Show Masterclass. Thus, I am wishing you an unironic Happy Black History Month!
What I’m thinking about right now:
I don’t like the tension and false opposition between the ‘natural’ wellness world and ‘traditional’ western medicine when it comes to womb health. I call it a false opposition because I think the true tension is between the practitioner versus the system. In both cases, most* individuals offering treatments to people have the same goal – to help heal or prevent suffering. In both cases the system that individual works within is concerned with one thing: money.
In my book, I’m not going to be drawing lines of us vs. them. Truthfully, I’m a woo-woo girl who has also spent years using the scientific method to save Black women’s lives. Evidence matters, but so also does experience. I see legitimacy (and utter nonsense…) in both spaces. And I’m tired of Black women being steered away from effective therapies regardless of the setting. I’m going to believe (against the larger nation’s status to the contrary) that we can hold nuance.
Pray for me.
Recently I wrote to you all a checklist of Womb Health Priorities with the new President coming into office. Respectfully, I was right. Health, and women’s health especially, is a main target of these people.
Fighting back.
Love y’all,
Kemi
